2016 Calendar

December 5, 2015 at 4:19 pm (Calendar, Photography)

This year’s calendar features photos from my trip in May—a 10-day Pilgrimage to points in Spain and Rome related to the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola. This was an amazing experience made available by my employer, Loyola Press. The sights, tours, meals, and accommodations were so rich and stimulating for us (19 colleagues in the group) I found myself very attracted to the doors, windows, and paths of the towns and cities — so much older than anything I see in my daily life at home — so that is what I featured in the calendar. Enjoy your year!

This calendar, if printed, is 4.6 X 5.4 in., designed to fit into a CD-style easel case. To download the calendar for viewing or printing, click the cover image below.

2015 Calendar

November 16, 2014 at 10:08 am (Calendar, Family, Photography) (, , , , , )

My calendar this year combines photos from the fifties by my father with lessons I learned from my mother in a hopefully heart-warming montage each month. Below is the holiday greeting that explains it!

Happy Holidays!

’Tis the time I begin to reflect on my year
With the idea of sending out holiday cheer.
But instead of the usual daily banalities,
It seems recent months dealt out harsher realities.

Family and friends who are with us no more;
Politics, mayhem, pandemics, and war.
“To hell in a handbasket,” my mother would say,
And think I, as I hear world news every day.

This season of global and personal drama
Has me thinking back to my Papa and Mama,
To my youth, to a seemingly simpler era—
A black-and-white time when the rules appeared clearer.

Please indulge me this moment of further reflection.
While subjecting my past to a closer inspection,
I’ve combined my father’s mid-century photos
With my mother’s advice, her warnings, her mottoes.

This calendar sports quite a personal feel
But I hope the result has some global appeal.
Month after month, please just know what I mean—
I wish you a fabulous twenty-fifteen!

2014 Calendar to Download!

December 10, 2013 at 10:20 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , )

Since scheduling wisdom everyone knows is,
“Always take time to smell the roses!”
Whether your days dawn with sunshine or showers,
Be soothed all the year by the beauty of flowers.

My calendar this year is inspired by my garden. Each month features a photo from our yard along with a tidbit of green-thumb wisdom for your inspiration or amusement. Additional images feature vintage garden-themed ephemera from various sources including OldDesignShop.com, TheGraphicsFairy.com, and Lilac-n-Lavender.blogspot.ca, to whom I am very grateful.

This calendar, if printed, is 4.6 X 5.4 in., designed to fit into a CD-style easel case. To download the calendar for viewing or printing, click the cover image below.

Alphabet Adventure

November 25, 2012 at 8:44 am (Family, Photo Gallery, Photography)

During a trip in spring 2012 to visit my grandchildren, Henry and Oliver, we embarked on an alphabet adventure. We found letters everywhere we went—downtown, in the yard, at the park, on errands, everywhere! We photographed all the letters we found. Both boys were excellent hunters. What a thrill it was to see little Ollie, who had only recently learned to recognize his letters, find “a lower-case Y” in a tree root! Here is our project, published not an alphabet book. (I used Mixbook for this project, a very fun photo site):

A beloved member of my family recently passed away, Sybil Myoshin Taylor. Here is a tribute to her, prepared by me and my sister Erika Taylor. (I used PowerPoint, of all things, to create it, then exported to mp4.)

Pork Chops for Dinner

September 15, 2011 at 9:46 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

I know, it’s been a long while since I posted anything! Today I reprinted a Shutterfly project due to a coupon for a free book. (I like to have extra copies of this storybook on hand for baby gifts.) Anyway, after ordering the book, I received this code to embed the project into a blog. I will test it here. (Well, the embed code did not work. I think the link did.)

Snowmageddon 2/2/2011

Our house in the snow

View from the street after 5 hours of shoveling

Or snOwMG or Snowzilla or Snowpocalypse . . . Whatever you call it, Chicago is pretty much closed down. I think the groundhog may have some trouble getting out to see his shadow in all this snow! Below is a link to my album of photos on Google’s Picasa site. (I’d hoped to include a slideshow here, but I find that WordPress is not compatible with Picasa slideshows. Sorry about that!)
