2015 Calendar

November 16, 2014 at 10:08 am (Calendar, Family, Photography) (, , , , , )

My calendar this year combines photos from the fifties by my father with lessons I learned from my mother in a hopefully heart-warming montage each month. Below is the holiday greeting that explains it!

This calendar, if printed, is 4.6 X 5.4 in., designed to fit into a CD-style easel case. To download the calendar for viewing or printing, click the cover image below. (3/29/15: The calendar now contains a critical correction to the December page!)

Happy Holidays!

’Tis the time I begin to reflect on my year
With the idea of sending out holiday cheer.
But instead of the usual daily banalities,
It seems recent months dealt out harsher realities.

Family and friends who are with us no more;
Politics, mayhem, pandemics, and war.
“To hell in a handbasket,” my mother would say,
And think I, as I hear world news every day.

This season of global and personal drama
Has me thinking back to my Papa and Mama,
To my youth, to a seemingly simpler era—
A black-and-white time when the rules appeared clearer.

Please indulge me this moment of further reflection.
While subjecting my past to a closer inspection,
I’ve combined my father’s mid-century photos
With my mother’s advice, her warnings, her mottoes.

This calendar sports quite a personal feel
But I hope the result has some global appeal.
Month after month, please just know what I mean—
I wish you a fabulous twenty-fifteen!

Alphabet Adventure

November 25, 2012 at 8:44 am (Family, Photo Gallery, Photography)

During a trip in spring 2012 to visit my grandchildren, Henry and Oliver, we embarked on an alphabet adventure. We found letters everywhere we went—downtown, in the yard, at the park, on errands, everywhere! We photographed all the letters we found. Both boys were excellent hunters. What a thrill it was to see little Ollie, who had only recently learned to recognize his letters, find “a lower-case Y” in a tree root! Here is our project, published not an alphabet book. (I used Mixbook for this project, a very fun photo site):
